Gartenplanung im Zeichenprogramm / plan your garden using a graphics progam

Bisher habe ich jeden Winter mühevoll meinen Garten in einem Büchlein skizziert, versucht, alle vorhandenen Pflanzen einzutragen und um sie herum die Bepflanzung des kommenden Jahres zu planen. Oft "verschwand" dabei die ein oder andere Pflanze, um mich im Frühjahr dann zu überraschen, manchmal habe ich mich auch beim Platzangebot verschätzt. Dabei kann es viel einfacher gehen: Man nehme einfach ein digitales Foto vom fraglichen Beet und ein Zeichenprogramm, in meinem Fall Photoshop.

Over the last few winters I usually tried to plan my garden using the old notebook-drawing method. Of course, the occasional plant got lost during me trying to capture all plants allready in the soil or I miscalculated the space I would have for new plants. Now I figured out that it can be much easier, simply by taking a digital photo of the bed you want to plan and using a graphics program for the actual planning, in my case I used Photoshop.

Schritt 1 /Step 1

Und so gehts / and here´s how you plan a bed:

1. Öffne ein möglichst übersichtliches Foto des Beetes, mit möglichst wenig Bewuchs. Ein Bild von Spätherbst bis frühem Frühling aufgenommen, funktioniert am Besten. Passe Helligkeit, Kontrast und Farben so an, dass es Dir gefällt (die Autofunktion tut´s hier auch)

1. Open a preferably lucid photo of the bed you want to plan, best take one on which there isn´t much vegetation. A picture taken from late fall till early spring would be perfect. Adjust contrast, color and brightness as you like, using auto correct should be fine here.

Schritt2 /Step2

 2. Erstelle eine neue transparente Ebene (layer). Umrande mit dem Stift-Werkzeug auf dieser Ebene alle vorhandenen Pflanzen und Freiflächen. Eine kontrastreiche Farbe eignet sich dazu am Besten.

2. Create a new transparent layer. Using the pencil tool on this layer encircle all plants allready on the bed, as well as free spaces. A color high in contrast works best for this purpose.

Schritt 3/ Step 3

3. Mit dem Text-Werkzeug nummeriere jede eingezeichnete Fläche. Es ensteht pro Zahl eine neue Ebene im Bild (siehe Abbildung)
Erstelle zum Schluss ein neues Textfeld am Rand des Bildes, indem Du alle Nummern entsprechend der Bepflanzung/Planung beschriftest.
Ich habe die Farben der Beschriftung lediglich nach guter Sichtbarkeit ausgewählt; die unterschiedlichen Farben haben keine tiefere Bedeutung.

3. Using the text tool number each drwan field on the transparent layer. For each number your program will create a new text layer (see picture for reference)
At last create a seperate text layer on some corner of the picture, where you have enogh space left and label each number with the actual plant planted or planned there. I simply used different colors for typing numers and descriptions for a better visibility, there is no hidden meaning for the different colors.


4. Um diese Planung auch in Zukunft einfach nutzen und ändern zu können, speichere die Datei unbedingt mit allen Ebenen ab. Bei Photoshop ist dazu die .psd Datei, die auch mit gimp genutzt werden kann, gut geeignet. JPG Dateien eignen sich nicht, weil hier beim Speichern alle Ebenen zu einer verschmelzen.
Zum späteren Editieren öffne die Datei einfach wieder, gehe auf die zu bearbeitende Ebene und ändere z.B. die Anordnung der Pflanzen oder die Beschriftung.

4. In Case you´ll want to use this plan again later, save the file with all layers, in Photoshop this would be saving as a .psd file (which is also can be used for gimp). Saving as JPG file would not do it, since during the saving process there all layers are merged to one. 
Later you can open the file again, go to the layer you want to edit and change for examplcan the numbers ore even the planting arrangements.
