Abgehakt... und weiter! / checked off... and moving on!

Es wäre übertrieben, zu behaupten, dass gestern ein Reinfall war. Nun ja, immerhin war es für alle beteiligten Stand-Tanten alles andere als lohnend - für alle Drei...

It would be overstated to call yesterday a complete failure. Well, at least it wasn´t worthwhile for all vendors... all three of us...



Yupp, der Markt hat offensichtlich weder mehr Händler noch Kundschaft in nennenswertem Maße angelockt. Die einzig Interessierten waren Eltern, die Ihre Kinder aus der KiTa abholen wollten. Naja, immerhin habe ich ein paar meiner Visitenkärtchen verteilen können und einige Bekannte versicherten mir, dass sie dem ein oder anderen Großelternteil diese Börse oder jene Mütze als potentielles Geschenk für den Enkel empfehlen würden. Verkauft habe ich auf diesem Mini-Markt allerdings nicht ein Teil.

Yap, this fair obviously didn´t catch any vendors or potential customers attention at all. The only interested people were parents on the way to pick their kids up from kindergarten. Well, at least I was able to issue some of my businesscards and some of my  acquaintances assured me, they would tell their parents to buy some of my items as gifts for the grandkids. Well, we´ll see. Over all I didn´t sell one single item on this fair, not only one.

Zumindest mein Schoko-Erdbeer-Fluff Kuchen, der die Gebühr für den Stand darstellte, fand reißenden Absatz; so reißend, dass aus dem Rezept demnächst sicher noch ein Post für´s Weekendkitchen rausspringt. Mit dem Erlös  (immerhn kostete ein Stück einen Euro) wird das Familienzentrum der KiTa Busonistraße unterstützt, und das ist doch schließlich auch was :)

Good thing is, my super fluffy choclate-strawberry cake, which was the fee for my booth, was an absolute bestseller, actually it sold out so fast, that I think I could do a post for my weekendkitchen and share the recipe with you guys soon. One piece was sold for one Euro, so they made quite some money with it. Proceeds are used to support the kindergarten´s own family center, at least, that´s something :)

Auch für meinen Erfahrungsschatz war dieser erste Versuch ja nicht unnütz, ein bisschen kann ich für kommende Märkte ändern oder auch beibehalten:

I learnd a few lessons though, so this adventure wasn´t senseless at all:

1. Wenn möglich, bring nicht deinen 16 Monate alten Wirbelwind mit zum Markt, ohne jemand anderen zum Aufpassen da zu haben. Besser noch: organisiere einen Babysitter für daheim.
Es war, besonders zu Anfang, schwierig, sowohl Erik, der natürlich mit den anderen Kindern der KiTa tollen wollte und durfte, als auch meinen Stand gleichzeitig im Auge zu behalten. Zum Glück passte dann Julia, eine befreundete Mama aus unserem wöchentlichen Treff, auf ihn auf und spielte mit ihm, so gut er sie ließ. Am Ende saß der Ärmste allerdings dann doch die längste Zeit im Buggy und langweilte sich etwas.

1. If possible, have someone to babysit your toddler on the fair or at home.
It was quite dificult, esp. at the fairs beginning, to have one eye on erik, who, course wanted and was allowed to play with the other children, and the other eye on my booth. I was lucky to have had Julia, a befriended mom who also joins our weekly kindergarten meetings, looking for him and playing with Erik for a long time. But at the end, he sat in his stroller and was a little bored I´m afraid.

2. Wenn es vor Ort eine Unterstellmöglichkeit für deine Sachen gibt, bring schon einiges früher hin.
Ich hatte Glück und konnte ein paar Kisten schon am Vormittag in der KiTa unterstellen - und sie auch heute, am Tag danach, wieder abholen. Das machte die "Anreise" mit Erik einfacher; wir konnten den Kinderwagen nehmen und er hatte somit eine Sitz-/Schlafgelegenheit vor Ort.
Aber auch ohne Kind kann das lohnend sein, wenn z.B. Parkplätze vor Ort rar oder weiter entfernt sind, als man seine Kisten schleppen kann/möchte.

2. If there is a room to store your stuff before the fair, bring some of your goods and equipment earlier and store them till the fair starts.
Luckily I could store some boxes at the kindergarten in yesterday morning and picked them up again today, one day after the fair. This made my arrival with Erik much easier, since we were able to take his stroller and so had a seat and sleeping opt. for him on-site.
Even without having a small child to take with you, storing your goods earlier can be usefull, for example, if parking spaces are hard to find or too far away to schlep your boxes to your booth.

3. Checklisten, Checklisten und noch mehr Checklisten.
Ich bin ja eh einer dieser Listen-Menschen, also habe ich während der Vorbereitungen für den Markt auch mittels diverser Listen versucht, den Überblick zu behalten. Da war die
- Liste, was noch anzufertigen ist
- Liste, von welchem Artikel wieviele mit auf den Markt kommen und zu welchem Einzelpreis (ink. "Eingepackt"-Häkchen ;) )
- Liste, was an Zubehör zu packen ist (Maßband, Deko, Kuli, Wechselgeld,
- Liste um die verkauften Artikel einzutragen, quasi eine Kassenliste
- und die Liste, was für Erik&mich zu packen ist
Nachdem die alle abgearbeitet, bzw. vorbereitet waren, fühlte ich mich halbwegs sicher und gerüstet; und siehe da: nichts vergessen, alles hat prima geklappt.

3. Check lists, check lists and even more check lists.
I´m one of these pals that run best having a checklist for all purposes ready to be checked off, so I wrote a lot different lists for the fair and worked with:
- a "what still to craft" list
- a list that showed, how many of the different goods went to the market, and for what price (including a "packed" check mark ;) )
- a sort of cash journal list
- a list, what to pack for Erik and me
- and a list, what to pack for the booth and selling like a pen, change, my order book, measuring tape, decorations for the boot and so on)
After I had processed these lists, I felt safe and good prepared, and it worked: everything was at hand and so the booth and I  were  fine.

Ich würde auch nicht sagen, dass ich nie wieder an so einem kleinen Markt wie dem in der KiTa teilnehmen würde; er war nur leider scheinbar zu wenig beworben und zu kurzfristig angesetzt worden, Probleme, die die Organisatoren sicher ebenfalls erkannt haben und beim nächsten Mal entsprechend anders handhaben werden.
Mein nächster Versuch startet ja schon am Sonntag kommender Woche; dann einmal ohne Erik, da dann Papa aufpassen kann und das ist dann auch ein echter Kunsthandwerksmarkt. Ich werde zwar wieder mit der KiTa da sein, weil ich an deren Stand ein Plätzchen bekomme, aber es werden mit Sicherheit mehr Leute kommen und vor allem: Leute, die die Handarbeit zu schätzen wissen und vielleicht auch mal was kaufen...

I won´t say, I wouldn´t attend such samll market like this one at our kindergarten again; only it was announced at a too short term and advertised about too little I think. But this sure is something, the organisers have noticed themselfs and will deal with different next time.
My next time will be on Sunday next week allready. Without my sweet pumkin this time, because hubby will be at home to take care of him then. 
It´ll be a real craft fair this time, even though I´ll be with the kindergarten-gang again, they were so sweet to offer some space at their booth, but surely this time there will be people in search for handcrafted goods, who like this kind of markets and hopefully finally someone will buy something at my booth.

Ach, und bevor ich´s vergesse: ein Happy End hatte der gestrige Tag doch noch: diese beiden Schätze sind auf  DaWanda gekauft worden, also muss ich wohl mal Neue machen :)

Oh, before I forget: at the end there was a happy ending to yesterdays failure: these both were sold over on DaWanda, I think I should make some new ones :)
